'Red Star' carries an RHS hardiness rating of H3, and it holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. In mild and coastal gardens it usually comes through winter outdoors with little fuss. In colder or wetter spots, and while plants are young, expect to give some protection in hard frosts.
