The upper surface is deep bluish green, almost pewter in good light, cut by broad silver-white primary veins; turn a leaf over and the underside glows wine red. Few Alocasia offer that much drama from both sides.

About the name
Watsoniana is generally treated as a form of the wider Alocasia longiloba group rather than a species in its own right, and Red Vein is a colour form selected from it. It stays a manageable size indoors, with leaves that can reach 40cm or more on a mature plant.

Care
This is a tissue culture plantlet, supplied small and ready to grow on. Settle it into a high-humidity setup first, such as a terrarium, propagator or grow cabinet, and move it to open room conditions gradually once it has put out new leaves. Give it bright indirect light, warmth above 18°C and water when the top of the substrate starts to dry. A free-draining mix matters more than most care details for Alocasia; the aroid potting mix is formulated for exactly this.
